If you’ve checked out the kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the narrative account of my journey retracing the steps of my great uncle during the Second World War, entitled Into adventure and sunshine, you might have already come across the companion work – Photographs from the Mediterranean Theatre.
As the name suggests, this large format hardback (with a limited run of just 50 copies worldwide) encapsulates the photographic journey that was the second aspect of my 1,000 mile, five month journey across the shores of the Mediterranean in North Africa and Italy.
It collects together images I was able to recapture 75 years on after my great uncle’s time, with then-and-now images comparing and merging the exact same sights and panoramas he witnessed during his time as a conscript in the Royal Engineers, some of which I’ve already started to share on my Instagram feed.
